Can lixnux do networking?

last month i was in the market for a new computer, and decided to take the plunge with a windows vista machine. ive heard a lot of good things about lixnux, especially that it is good for programmers, but the truth is i finally bought a vista machine because i'm too dependant on the internet.

to be honest, i dont think lixnux has a future until it opens up to the internet and enables internet/networking. i would love to try a new computer type, but until vista's competitors can also connect me to the internet and network to other computers, i'll really have no choice.

do any lixnux power users/fans have any insight into whether or not they will be introducing internet/networking into a future version?

thanks in advance! - dan

Can lixnux do networking?
Linux is 100 percent Network and Internet ready. It even accesses Windows Networks. As I am typing this, I am doing so running Debian Linux v.3.0. I also use DSL Linux for networking as well. Linux has a bright future and a 25 year past.

And with the new technology that they have included, Linux looks like she's going to be running strong.

I thought the question came from a person who is a novice to Linux becuase the question itself was a bit odd. You see, Website domains use UNIX (Linux). Networking and Internet access has been included for longer than I've used Linux.

I do hope this prompts you to look into Linux first. Trust me, you'll have enough questions afterwards. But these types of questions won't be on the list.

Contact me for a free copy of Linux that will run in Windows which will allow you to preview the OS.
Reply:Yes, it can. It is a full-fledged operating system just like Windows.

However... "An excessive conviction of Linux's invulnerability and the absence of viruses 'in the wild' able to cripple this platform, only play into the hand of virus writers. It is usual practice for Linux files, downloaded from suspicious sources on the Internet, to be executed directly without taking any anti-virus measures. What a happy hunting ground for viruses and trojans! The only reason there is still no virus epidemic under Linux of the LoveBug scale is that Linux is still not a widespread platform and certainly not a desktop standard being used on millions of PCs all around the world in all industries.

Despite all that is said, Linux is still far behind the popularity of Windows and therefore behind in the attention virus writers pay to this operating system. This is true notwithstanding that almost every week a new Linux virus is discovered. Even though many of them are squalid and botched, these attempts are becoming more and more aggressive and, what is frightening, many are successful. It is obvious; a global epidemic of Linux viruses is on the horizon. When will it happen? Cross your fingers and make your play!"
Reply:I'm on a Linux computer now, and I love it. Sometimes it takes a little bit of work to get wireless working on laptops with newer hardware, for example, but it's really easy to find a Linux Users Group in your area, and they'll help you get the right drivers, then it'll be easy after that. Wired networking is no big deal at all.

Coolest thing is there's a ton of free software you can use, and you don't have to worry about viruses and spyware. I recommend the Ubuntu version for you, that's what I use and it's easier and prettier than some other distributions. I'm no programmer by far!
Reply:Yes
